It's a game, set, match for pickleball fans in Williamson County, as officials served up a fresh array of pickleball courts at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the county unveiled six new courts dedicated to one of America’s fastest-spreading sports, converting half of the park's existing basketball courts to meet growing demand.

Williamson County Parks Department Director Russell Fishbeck spoke to the crowd's applause, saying “We’re excited to provide a new recreational activity for our citizens in response to one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation,” this addition marks the latest effort by the county to stay ahead of recreational trends and provide diverse opportunities for residents to swing into action. Three basketball courts and eight tennis courts received a face-lift along with the pickleball court transformation all part of the county’s push to refresh its recreational facilities.

The project, sinking $228,000 from the fiscal year 2024 Parks Department operating budget, was netted to the contractor Hellas Construction, known for their handiwork in athletic facilities. The courts, now open to all on a first-come, first-served basis, promise to be a popular venue for pickleball enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

In a statement made during the ribbon-cutting, Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey praised the new development, “We are proud to offer pickleball courts to the citizens of Williamson County,” reinforcing the community-focused approach of the county’s recreational expansions. The investment highlights the county's commitment to promoting active lifestyles and providing access to sports facilities for a demographic increasingly interested in the racket sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.
