A 19-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on I-94 in Romulus Monday night after losing control of his bike, striking a concrete wall and being catapulted into a light pole, the Detroit News reported.

The fatal incident occurred in the westbound lanes near Merriman Road, around 11:30 p.m., with early findings suggesting that high speed by two motorcyclists played a fundamental role in the tragedy, Michigan State Police confirmed. The identity of the young man, a reported resident of Dearborn, was withheld but his family has been notified, according to News-Herald.

In response to the incident, Michigan State Police's First Lt. Mike Shaw issued a reminder to motorcyclists about safety on the roads. "We want to remind motorcycle operators to drive responsibly," he said. "It is important to know your riding abilities, wear a helmet and drive the speed limit when operating a motorcycle. It will help prevent crashes like this one." the spokesman advised, as noted by the Detroit News.

Police have concluded their on-site investigation of the crash, yet further details surrounding the precise circumstances of the accident have not been disclosed, the News-Herald reported.
