Charlotte's venerated nightlife spot for the LGBTQ+ community, The Scorpio, is poised to reopen its doors at a new location after its original venue closed last year. Previously housed on Freedom Drive for 55 years, The Scorpio shuttered due to redevelopment in the area, a situation reported by CharlotteFive. Its new venue, 225 Fairwood Avenue, formerly RSVP South End, is projected to open on July 1 and will inherit a robust 15,000 square feet to continue its legacy.

The shift of RSVP South End from a nightclub to an event space in May set the stage for this acquisition, as reported by Axios Charlotte. In this new collaboration, RSVP South End will maintain its presence using the space for private events. The new venue boasts multiple distinct environments which include three bars and two rooftops, aiming to uplift the city's LGBTQ nightlife.

Christina Chen, RSVP's director of events, described the concept behind the merger: "The plan is to have two brands under one roof — Scorpio and RSVP," according to an interview with Axios Charlotte. Scorpio's expansion is seen as part of an evolution, ensuring the venue remains a dynamic part of Charlotte's LGBTQ+ landscape. Signaling this progress, an Instagram announcement from the venue stated, "This move is not just a change of address; it's an evolution that ensures the Scorpio legacy continues to thrive and serve the LGBTQ+ community in Charlotte and surrounding area."

Community responses have been supportive of Scorpio's relocation. A statement from Charlotte Pride, shared by WCNC, expressed their enthusiasm: "Charlotte Pride is thrilled that the legacy of The Scorpio will live on at a new location. For decades, The Scorpio has served as a beacon for the LGBTQ community, offering a safe and welcoming space for all." The club, known for its drag shows featuring both local and international talent, emphasizes the importance of preserving venues that can foster inclusivity and celebration.
