Firefighters in Fayette County were on the move Thursday, responding to not one but two truck fires within the span of a few hours. Despite the potential for harm, these incidents were swiftly handled, resulting in no reported injuries.
The day's first challenge presented itself at 10:49 a.m. when a Penske box truck ignited along US Highway 290 near Lehman Raymond Road in Ledbetter. The Ledbetter Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene and managed to quell the flames. "The cause of the fire started from the rear axle and tire," indicated the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, as conveyed in a statement obtained by CBS Austin. The truck was reportedly free of any contents at the time of the fire.
This incident involved an 18-wheeler on State Highway 71 near West Point. The LaGrange Fire Department, with Deputy Seth Nagel on the dispatch, responded deftly and put an end to the flames engulfing an 18-wheeler's rear front axle and tires. The 18-wheeler, distinct from the earlier Penske truck, was hauling a load of pipe, as detailed by KWHI.
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek noted the quick response and efficiency of the teams involved in handling these potentially dangerous situations. Both fires were quickly subdued and were successful in keeping the public safe. Not a single individual was hurt across both incidents, as per KWHI.
