
A tragic incident occurred at Wilson Creek in Caldwell County when a mother and her one-year-old son drowned. Caldwell County Emergency Services were called to the scene near Brown Mountain Beach Road in the Wilson Creek Gorge on Saturday at approximately 6:30 p.m. after reports of a drowning. QC News reported that two individuals were found unconscious and despite resuscitation efforts, they passed away at the scene.
Rescue operations were conducted by both local emergency services and NC Wildlife officials who found three victims in the water. According to a WSOCTV report, emergency responders attempted life-saving measures on the unconscious mother and child, identified by the mother's mother as Chelsea Jackson and her baby Oliver, to no avail.
The third victim involved in the incident has not been identified, and while details around the nature of the drowning have not been released, the investigation is ongoing. Emergency units, including the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission Law Enforcement, worked on the recovery of the victims and assisted with the investigation.
