A family in Joppa, Maryland, faced a distressing turn of events last night when their 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning caught fire while charging in their driveway. As reported by Fox Baltimore, the homeowners discovered the fire as they were winding down for the evening. The flames rapidly spread to their garage, damaging two additional vehicles inside.
The incident left the homeowner with burns to his right hand after he tried to disconnect the charging cable during the blaze. The owner sustained burns to his right hand while attempting to disconnect the vehicle from its charging cable. Despite attempts to control the fire with a garden hose, the situation worsened, destroying two more cars in the garage.
Thankfully, firefighters arrived on the scene in time to prevent the fire from extending into the living areas of the home. However, the residence at 315 Waterton Way did not escape unscathed. As the blaze was contained, the property sustained significant damage from heat, smoke, soot, and water. Fire officials sourced the fire's origin to the vehicle's battery pack area.
While the home's smoke alarms did not detect the fire, as it was confined to the exterior, the damages have indeed upended the lives of the residents—a family of four now finds itself displaced. WCBM details that the family is "currently making their own accommodation arrangements."
