The Peoria County Sheriff's Office is currently undergoing an investigation after a female body was discovered in the Illinois River. The sheriff's office, as reported by WGN-TV, responded to the scene near Mosaic Fertilizer on the 8700 block of Cargill Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Accessed by firefighters from the Pekin Fire Department with their boat, the deceased was retrieved from the water.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood stated that yesterday's strong winds hindered recovery efforts. ”If you were out yesterday, it was fairly windy yesterday, and the currents were high in the river. So that was of the utmost importance,” Harwood said. “I am grateful for the Pekin Fire Department and the job that they did and keeping her where she was because it was difficult, even in the boat that they were in," he added, as noted by 25newsnow.

Those with information that could assist in identifying the woman or details surrounding her death are encouraged to reach out. Detective Lee Hoffman can be contacted directly at (309) 657-5532, according to 25newsnow.
