This afternoon, a small plane made an emergency landing in a field near Coconut Palm Elementary School in Miramar, attracting attention from local authorities and media. The incident occurred just after 1 p.m., with Miramar Fire Rescue confirming the crash location behind the school. Chopper 6 provided aerial footage showing the plane grounded close to a school playground. According to Miramar Police, the plane was damaged, but no injuries were reported for the occupants or anyone on the ground, as noted by NBC Miami.
Miramar Police and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the incident. The FAA confirmed that the Piper PA-28 crashed shortly after taking off from North Perry Airport in Hollywood, Florida, with two people on board. The FAA will conduct an investigation, as reported by WSVN. The same plane had previously made an emergency landing at North Perry Airport in 2022.
Coconut Palm Elementary School was not placed on lockdown following the incident, and the school building was unharmed. Officials also noted that traffic flow in the area was not impacted by the crash.
The cause of the emergency landing is still under investigation. The FAA's involvement in the investigation suggests a thorough process to determine what led to the incident.
