An RV fire on Saturday in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, resulted in a fatality, with intense footage captured by bystanders. According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident around 1:16 p.m. at the 13400 block of W. Raymer Street. Videos from the scene showed firefighters working to control the flames, which had engulfed a Class A motorhome parked along a curb in an industrial area.
While the LAFD managed to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses or vehicles, the aftermath was somber; the scorched structure of the vehicle contained human remains. “Though the fire was prevented from extending to businesses or other vehicles parked nearby, the remains of one person (undetermined age/gender/site affiliation/circumstances) were found within the charred remnants of the Class A style motorhome,” LAFD stated in an announcement obtained by LAFD ALERT. No further injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
The LAFD's rapid response was captured in multiple videos by users of the Citizen app, illustrating the severity of the blaze with a massive plume of black smoke visible for blocks. Close-up footage shared on social media showed the firefighters' efforts to douse the flames amidst the heat and chaos of the midday emergency.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway, with the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division overseeing inquiries. The identity of the person found deceased has yet to be released, pending results from the Medical Examiner's office. For further media inquiries, the LAPD North Hollywood Division (Incident #2347) and the Medical Examiner have been listed as the primary contacts.
