Yesterday evening, a significant blaze tore through the Miccosukee Reservation in West Miami-Dade, gutting three homes, but fortunately, it resulted in no reported injuries. The fire broke out near the 37700 block and Southwest 8th Street, as NBC Miami details, around 8:38 p.m., not far from the Miccosukee Resort and Casino, prompting an evacuation of residents from neighboring structures.
Over 25 units from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were dispatched to battle the three-alarm fire that faced complications from windy conditions spreading embers and exposed power lines which required additional backup according to the same report, this has raised concerns about the resources and readiness when fires escalate in such a way. The aerial footage obtained by 7News displayed the extent of the flame-engulfed structures, with fire crews rapidly starting their attack to subdue the fire and prevent further damage.
Authorities reported that "MDFR units arrived to find three fully engulfed structures with possible extension to nearby vehicles," and crews implemented a strategy to not only quench the flames but also to shield the adjacent homes and vehicles from catching fire. As shared with NBC Miami, the large response team was able to control the blaze without any injury reports coming forth from the incident.
The aftermath of the incident left the fire under control, and the section of the reservation where it happened was in a quiet recovery. The underlying cause of the fire still remains under investigation, as stated by NBC Miami.
