Firefighters from the Santa Clara County Fire Department swiftly responded to a car fire incident after a vehicle accident on Highway 9 at Sanborn Road. The emergency call came in at 4:24 PM, and within minutes, responders worked to contain both the vehicle fire and the spread of flames to nearby vegetation. As traffic snarled, California Highway Patrol's San Jose division was on the scene, enforcing a closure of the highway in both directions to facilitate clean-up efforts and to ensure public safety, as per the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
The blaze, resulting from the vehicular collision, was knocked down on the vehicle by 4:42 PM and threatened to ignite the surrounding area. Still, fire crews confirmed that the forward progress of the vegetation fire had been stopped by 4:36 PM. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, it was reported that the driver involved managed to escape without injuries.
Commuters were advised to seek alternative routes as the road closure was anticipated to last until approximately 6:30 PM.
