An overnight incident involving a semi-truck that erupted into flames led to considerable traffic disruptions on Interstate 4, with the repercussions felt well into the morning commute. According to a report by WFTV, the fire broke out at approximately 1:04 a.m. on I-4 westbound before SR 434 in Longwood, compelling authorities to close all westbound lanes—a shutdown that persisted for hours as crews managed the situation.
Travelers were hemmed in by more than five miles of backups, even after 7 a.m., as traffic funneled through only the inside shoulder lane. Despite the imposition on the morning's commute, the two occupants of the vehicle, engulfed as it was by flames, emerged without injury.
The Seminole County Fire Department spent several hours battling the flames, working to keep the fire from spreading to nearby trees. Crews remained on scene into the morning, clearing away the charred remains of the semi-truck.
According to ClickOrlando, the fire started near the Lake Mary rest area, though the exact cause is still under investigation.
