According to the Fire Department's post, one apartment building on Del Mar Avenue was particularly hard hit, with eight occupied units being affected. "One unit sustained significant fire damage, two others moderate. Others had lesser fire, smoke, water or forced-entry damage," the San José Fire Department detailed. Consequently, utilities were cut, and the entire nine-unit building was rendered uninhabitable.
Adjacent to the initial apartment building, Marlboro Court also suffered from the blaze. Firefighters were able to limit most of the damage to a single apartment, which was destroyed by the fire. The remaining units in this nine-unit complex were spared more severe destruction, allowing residents to return to their homes after the fire was extinguished.
Minor damage from radiant heat also affected another apartment building on Del Mar, but this did not result in further displacements. "The fires were knocked down at 12:08am and under control at 12:40am," the San José Fire Department stated. No injuries were reported among the firefighters or the residents, though a total of 10 individuals from the nine occupied units were displaced. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
