A tragic crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach has resulted in the death of a man and left another with injuries, local authorities report. The collision occurred early Monday morning at around 2:15 a.m. south of Warner Avenue. According to the official press release from the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD), a black Ford Expedition and a white Audi Q5 were involved in the incident.

The driver of the Expedition, identified as a 44-year-old male from Sunnyvale, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have said that impairment does not appear to be a factor for the driver of the Expedition. On the other hand, the Audi driver, a 29-year-old male from Huntington Beach, sadly did not survive the ordeal and was pronounced dead on the scene. Efforts to clearly determine whether the Audi driver was impaired at the time are still underway.

Scene footage released by authorities and reported by CBS News Los Angeles shows the aftermath of the accident. The Audi was found overturned on its roof, and the Expedition had been pushed into the adjacent wetlands. The names of the involved individuals have not yet been released to the public.

The HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently handling the ongoing investigation of the collision. Huntington Beach authorities are calling for witnesses who may have seen the crash or events leading up to it to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator C. Houlston.
