An early morning camper fire on Washington Lane in Kannapolis tore into a nearby single-story home Sunday, forcing out the occupants but miraculously leaving everyone unhurt. By the time firefighters arrived, flames had already chewed through a camper and an outbuilding and had pushed into the home’s attic. Several vehicles and a neighboring house also took substantial damage in the chaos.
According to a post from Kannapolis Fire and Police on Facebook, the first 911 call came in shortly before 2 a.m. Crews from Station 1 reached the scene in about five minutes, with Landis Fire, Rowan EMS and Rowan Rescue Squad assisting at the fire while Salisbury and Concord departments provided district coverage.
What Crews Found And Did
When firefighters pulled up, the camper and an outbuilding were already fully engulfed, and fire had moved into the home’s attic, forcing crews to deploy multiple hoselines and search the property, according to WSOC. No injuries were reported, but officials said the home, camper, outbuilding, several vehicles and a neighboring residence all suffered significant damage.
Cause And Help For Displaced Residents
Investigators believe the fire started in the camper trailer, the department said in its Facebook update. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced homeowners, according to the post.
Kannapolis Fire Department said the cause remains under investigation and that more information will be released as it becomes available. This remains a developing story.
