A normally quiet stretch of Bear Creek in Warren turned into a grim scene Tuesday afternoon when a body was pulled from the water, leaving neighbors rattled and looking for answers.
The recovery and death were confirmed Tuesday by FOX 2 Detroit. In the station's video report, a man who said he knew the deceased described him simply as "nice." No identity has been released, and officials have not said what might have led to the death.
Bear Creek's recent history
Bear Creek has been on regulators' radar for reasons that have nothing to do with Tuesday's discovery. The drainage drew scrutiny after a 2024 contamination and a 2025 prosecution over improper disposal, outlined in a Hoodline report on an illegal chemical dump in Bear Creek. That case led to cleanup efforts involving EGLE and the EPA.
What officials say
Authorities have confirmed the death but are holding back details for now on both the person's identity and what might have caused the death, according to FOX 2 Detroit. Investigators typically wait for the county medical examiner's findings before publicly releasing any cause-of-death information.
Officials have not indicated when more information will be available. This story will be updated as authorities release additional details.
