An early-morning fire tore through a vacant four-plex on the 1200 block of Larch Street in Everett, but firefighters kept the flames from jumping to nearby buildings. No injuries were reported, and fire investigators were called in to sift through the scene, according to city officials.

How It Unfolded

Engine 2 arrived to find an active structure fire with flames pushing out from the eaves, and crews reported the heaviest fire in the center unit, which had already extended through the roof. Firefighters knocked down the main body of the blaze and moved into overhaul and cleanup by about 6:53 a.m., according to the Everett Fire Department. Officials said quick action prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties.

Mutual Aid And Safety

The department said the building was unoccupied when crews arrived and that no injuries were reported. Tulalip Bay Fire, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue and the Marysville Fire District provided automatic aid at the scene, the Everett Fire Department wrote on Facebook. "No live-fire training has occurred at this location and the fire is unrelated to training activity," the post said.

Redevelopment Site

The four-plex sits in an area the city has identified for future redevelopment as part of the Baker Heights / Everett Housing Authority Park District project, according to City of Everett planning documents. The department’s post notes the building is part of parcels planned for future redevelopment.

What’s Next

Fire investigators remained on scene through the morning working to determine the blaze's origin, and cleanup operations continued into the day. The Everett Fire Department said it will post further updates to its social channels as more information becomes available.
