Jack London Square will celebrate the start of the holiday season with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 1 from 5–7 p.m.
Oakland’s favorite annual holiday tradition promises to deliver holiday magic to the Oakland waterfront with the lighting of the spectacular 55-foot Mount Shasta Fir Tree adorned with 5,000 sparking white lights and 600 colorful ornaments. Thousands of people will gather for the event, which will feature live music and entertainment from local musicians and arts groups, Urban Air Market DIY Workshops, holiday pop-up shops and a special appearance by Santa !
The festivities are open to the public and free to attend, with tasty drinks and holiday treats available for purchase.
KTVU FOX 2 Anchor Gasia Mikaelian will, once again, serve as Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening and will lead the countdown to the lighting of the tree. In the spirit of the season, Jack London Square’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will host a donation drive to collect non-perishable foods, unwrapped toys, and gently worn coats for several nonprofit organizations.
A celebration of the season and the community, Jack London Square’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will feature holiday performances by Kev Choice and Friends with Oakland Youth All-Star Ensembles and special dance performances by the East Bay’s world-famous Tap Dancing Christmas Trees.
Live music will be provided by Oakland School for the Arts, Oakland School for the Arts Concert Choir, Oakland School for the Arts Contemporary Combo, Roses in Concrete Elementary Choir, Oaktown Jazz Workshops, and more! In addition to live entertainment, handmade goods and treats will be available for purchase from local markers and artisans at multiple holiday pop-ups located throughout Jack London Square. To complete the evening, guests are invited to capture their evening with a free photo with Santa!
