A long-standing hit-and-run case appeared to edge closer to resolution Wednesday as Jason Long, after being sought for months turned himself into Jupiter police, officials said. Long faces charges for allegedly fleeing the scene of a January crash that left a 74-year-old man dead, confirmed Jupiter authorities.

On the fateful night of Jan. 12, near Parkside Drive and University Boulevard, the aftermath of which left a senior citizen lifeless, the suspect had evaded law enforcement until now. Paramedics declared the elderly victim dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed, as reported by WPBF.

"Diligent pursuit of leads and exhaustive investigative efforts," were credited by the Jupiter Police Department in their success in identifying Long as the suspect. According to a WPTV report, Long, hailing from Palm Beach Gardens, surrendered at the Jupiter Police Department on Wednesday and subsequently had his initial court appearance the following morning.

The department conveyed its condolences to the family of the man whose life was cut short by the incident: "The Jupiter Police Department extended its deepest sympathies to the man's family and loved ones," as per the WPBF report. He was booked into the main Palm Beach County jail and now awaits the due process for his alleged failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving death.
