Fairfield Man Charged with Arson After Early Morning Fire on North Texas StreetSource: Fairfield Police Department

Flames and shattered glass weren't the only things breaking the early morning calm on North Texas Street last Thursday. The Fairfield Police were called to the scene of a small, but potentially deadly fire at a deserted store. According to the Fairfield Police Department's Facebook page, they arrived at a business suffocating in smoke with its front window burst open by flame.

The blaze at the 1900 block, reported at 7:05 am, was caught early enough to prevent a full inferno. Cameras played an essential role in the unfoldings—Sharper than the morning, they spotted a man who would soon find his freedom curtailed. The Fairfield Police, employing technology like hounds on a scent, used the footage to send a photo of a suspect to the officers on the ground.

It didn't take long before Travis Dewitt, 44, found himself on the wrong side of the law, staring down the steely gaze of Fairfield's finest. Dewitt, accused of kindling the dangerous fire, was apprehended without incident and given what the police described as "a not so cushy ride to County Jail." Dewitt stands charged with arson, which carries severe penalties under California law.

The authorities have divulged no motive over the flames that could've spelled disaster for the Fairfield community.
