According to The Detroit News, at approximately 10:25 p.m., the man fired at a male employee who managed to swiftly retreat without injury, amid the chaos that followed.
Sources indicate that hospital security found the shooter shortly after with a critical, self-inflicted gunshot wound. Detroit police stated that the employee involved in the incident was unharmed and that the man responsible is now in serious condition. The Detroit News further reported that no additional details surrounding the shooting have been revealed as the matter remains under active investigation.
In a separate account, FOX 2 Detroit described the incident as an attempted suicide, and quoted the hospital spokesperson saying, "We are grateful for the bravery of our staff, security team and DMC Police Authority officers for their swift response to ensure the safety of our patients and staff." The statement continued, "The DMC Police Authority were able to immediately secure the unit, quickly containing the situation."
