In a solemn reminder of road workers' perils, PennDOT Schuylkill County took a stand for safety today, bringing attention to the 90 lives lost since 1970 in work zones. At their maintenance office on East Main Street, a memorial stands to honor those who wore the orange vests and hard hats, whose work along highways came to a tragic end.

At 11 am this morning, the PennDOT Workers' Memorial provided a backdrop as officials, including County Manager Thomas Rogal and Safety Press Officer Sean Brown, underlined the importance of safe driving through the zones where men and women make their living. Keeping the crews who repair the arteries of this state safe is the responsibility of every motorist who passes them by. They emphasized while cars zoomed down the nearby highway.

The display, as seen on PennDOT's website, will continue through May 2. It serves not only as a tribute but also as a stark message to the public: slow down, stay alert, and respect the workspace of the individuals who maintain our roads.
