Boat Captain's Quick Response Aids in Rescue of Woman Who Jumped from Miami's Brickell Avenue BridgeSource: Google Street View

A woman's leap from the Brickell Avenue Bridge late Tuesday night resulted in a dramatic rescue, as recounted by a quick-acting boat captain. Captain German of Ballyhoo Media was navigating home at approximately 10:15 p.m. when he noticed an unusual delay on the usually bustling bridge. According to a statement obtained by WSVN, German observed the woman on the bridge threatening to jump and immediately radioed for assistance.

German transmitted a mayday call, alerting authorities to the situation, "We have a potential jumper on the Brickell Bridge," he detailed in an interview with WSVN. Shortly after the woman plunged into the waters below, a seizure seizing her body amidst the dark waves. Had it not been for German's alert and the timely response from the City of Miami Fire Boat, the outcome could have been tragic.

Reflecting on the urgency of the moment, German told WSVN, "When she did fall, she had like a seizure, and if it wasn't for them getting there so promptly, and me calling them, she probably would have drowned." The professional response ensured the woman was swiftly pulled from the hazardous currents and delivered to the hospital for care and evaluation.

Miami Fire Rescue, in recognition of German's decisive act, communicated their gratitude to him and the Ballyhoo team. "Oh yes, yes, they let us know that if it wasn't for us being there, that person could have passed away," German told WSVN. Notably, this was the second such intervention by Ballyhoo Media's crew on the Miami River within a year, having previously aided a woman who was knocked into the water by her dog in August 2023.

In a separate report by ONLYinDADE on Instagram, Miami Police confirmed receiving calls around 10:20 p.m. regarding a woman leaning dangerously over the edge of the bridge before making the jump. The police affirmed that Miami Fire Rescue responded posthaste to the scene, where they were able to recover the woman who was alert and conscious when transferred to medical facilities, though her current condition remains undisclosed.
