A 14-year-old boy from Broward has been slapped with several felony charges after he allegedly used his dogs to hunt down and kill a stray cat. The Broward Sheriff's Office detained the teen following a disturbing incident near Fort Lauderdale that ended in the death of a local stray known as Ringo.

Officials at Broward Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the teen is facing charges of animal cruelty resulting in death, torment and baiting of animals in connection with the killing that happened last month, NBC Miami reported. The incident took place on the night of April 21, with the cat's body being discovered the next day in the 300 block of Northwest 28th Terrace, an area not formally part of any city.

The case took a grim turn when detectives found surveillance footage that allegedly shows the suspect throwing an object at the cat, which was perched atop a car, then sending two dogs after it when it leapt to the ground. The feline, outnumbered and outmatched, was later found dead, bearing marks of a brutal dog attack.

Following an investigation spurred by the gruesome discovery, authorities arrested the unnamed minor. The boy was processed at the Juvenile Assessment Center, according to information provided by the WSVN. The slain cat, Ringo, had apparently been a fixture in the neighborhood, and this act of violence against a defenseless animal has led to the 14-year-old's apprehension and subsequent charges.

The community has been left reeling from the shocking act, with the case now highlighting concerns about youth and animal cruelty in the area. The Sheriff's Office has not released further details about the suspect due to his juvenile status, but the nature of the crimes suggests a gravity often reserved for more hardened criminals.
