A standoff on Detroit's west side came to a grim conclusion as a gunman, barricaded inside a home after injuring another in a shooting, was found dead, local authorities confirmed.

Officers responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 1:36 p.m. yesterday in the 9100 block of Carlin Street where they found a shooting victim suffering from three bullet wounds to the legs, as The Detroit News reported, after the victim was quickly transported to a hospital with injuries not expected to be life-threatening, the shooter had fled into a nearby residence and had holed himself up prompting an immediate response from specialized police units.

According to a FOX 2 Detroit report the police SWAT team entered the house after the hours-long standoff to discover the suspect deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot, Deputy Chief Arnold Williams gave an update earlier in the day as the scene was still active highlighting the involvement of the department's crisis negotiators and a special response team aiming to resolve the tense situation.

Nearby residents were advised to stay indoors during the operation, and the situation caused some disturbance in the area as the police operation unfolded, a neighbor, Michael Sanders, recounted the terrifying moment stating, "I came out of the house and I saw a guy laying in the field screaming and a lady was standing over him saying ‘He shot him, he shot him,’" as Sanders observed the escalating police response in his neighborhood, as clickondetroit conveyed.

While the incident's motive remains under investigation, the Detroit Police Department recovered a handgun from near the deceased suspect as mentioned in their late Tuesday brief, as the community reckons with the violent encounter and the police continue to investigate the full scope of what precipitated the barricade and subsequent death.
