A North Carolina man was indicted for allegedly sending a venomous antisemitic postcard to a Georgia rabbi, federal prosecutors revealed, Ariel Collazo Ramos, 31, of High Point, is accused of threat through the postal system against Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar of Temple Beth Israel in Macon right on the heels of her state legislature testimony in support of a law to crack down on antisemitism.

Court documents unsealed on Thursday and obtained by WABE show that Ramos allegedly sent a postcard in February spewing hate and referencing Zyklon B, the gas used by Nazis to murder Jews during the Holocaust, and using the slur "Jews are rats," potentially landing him in prison for up to five years he's convicted of the charged offenses, and these chilling threats come as Rabbi Bahar lent her voice in favor of a new Georgia law aimed at helping to identify and prosecute hate crimes and illegal discrimination.

The man's online business where he allegedly peddles candles, postcards, and other items adorned with racial and white nationalist iconography, was pointed out in the indictment, Ramos's arrest brings to light the dark undercurrents of hate that surface when individuals strive for social progress, specifically when such drive is to combat antisemitism.

Despite the significant attention the case has garnered, Ramos's representation remains a question as there was no immediate report of an attorney enlisted to defend him, the rabbi whom Ramos targeted, played a key role earlier this year, testifying before lawmakers in Georgia in a successful effort to define antisemitism legally, providing law enforcement and prosecutors with more explicit guidelines to tackle discriminatory crimes, which has since been enacted into law.
