A UPS driver was fatally shot while seated in his delivery truck in Irvine Industrial Area. The incident, which took place around 3:00 P.M. on Thursday at Crysler and Bendix, resulted in the death of 50-year-old Expedito Cuesta De Leon of Aliso Viejo, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. The Irvine Police Department is investigating the shooting as a homicide, citing that the attack did not appear to be a robbery, and it's possible that De Leon was targeted.

Witnesses told police that a masked gunman approached De Leon's truck and opened fire before fleeing the scene. According to a KTLA report, De Leon was pronounced dead at the scene. His normal routine likely placed him in the crosshairs, as Sgt. Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department noted that "That area where he was shot is normally where he takes his breaks."

Later that evening, law enforcement located a pickup truck fitting the description of the suspect's vehicle provided by witnesses. The driver of the truck was discovered near Lake Irvine off of Santiago Canyon Road, leading to a standoff between the suspect and a SWAT team. The man was eventually arrested after authorities used gas and a K-9 unit to extract him from his vehicle. Details about the identity of the suspect were not immediately available.

Amid the tragedy, UPS released a statement expressing sorrow, saying, "Our hearts are heavy with the news of the loss of one of our drivers in Irvine," indicating the impact De Leon's death has had on the company.
