A spate of violence tore through Southwest Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon, leaving one woman dead and three men wounded in two separate but possibly connected shootings. According to FOX 29, the first incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. on the 7000 block of Wheeler Street, where police found a 34-year-old woman with fatal injuries to her stomach and wrist and a 29-year-old man shot in the face.

Within just an hour of the first incident, and merely blocks away, another shooting erupted—prompting officials to hurriedly respond. This time, on Passyunk Avenue near a pizza restaurant, a man reportedly exited his vehicle to open fire, injuring two individuals. The first, a man in front of the eatery, suffered a leg wound; another arrived at a police station claiming to possibly have been hit by bullet fragmentation, documented 6abc News. A daycare located steps from the second crime scene expressed deep concern over the continuing violence. "I have witnessed so many people fight in front of my day care. Stabbed in front of my day care. It's really sad. The days and times that we're in today, it's horrible," owner Valerie Scott told 6abc News.

The woman from the Wheeler Street shooting was transported to a hospital where, as reported by NBC Philadelphia, she was pronounced dead at 4:51 p.m. The male victim from that scene remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made in connection with either incident, and police are asking for the public's help with any information.

Amid these distressing events, authorities are investigating the possible links between the shootings. So far, no weapons have been recovered, leaving the community on edge and officials to scramble for answers. Whether the shootings are directly connected "is still under investigation," according to Philadelphia police.
