Wixom Man Arrested After Driving Wrong Way in Bloomfield Township, DUI SuspectedSource: Bloomfield Township Police Department

A Wixom man, 55, was busted for drunk driving after he was caught barreling down the road in the wrong direction on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Police said the white Volvo he was driving was spotted by officers at around 9 p.m. last Sunday, whizzing south in the northbound lanes near Long Lake Road after they received multiple 911 calls about the erratic driver, The Detroit News reported.

The reckless motorist, who came perilously close to colliding with a motorcyclist, continued to drive against traffic until pulling over near Country Club Drive following a pursuit by the police, according to officials. The seasoned radio host of The Bushman Show, who narrowly escaped being hit by the wayward driver, described the ordeal as "the most confusing, scary thing I ever seen," he told FOX 2 Detroit.

Once stopped, the man's condition set off alarms, with police reporting a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech, and a lack of balance. During questioning, the driver admitted to imbibing a $3.99 bottle of Bay Bridge wine, and subsequent field sobriety tests led to his arrest on the suspicion of intoxicated driving, as outlined by The Oakland Press. At the police station, the man consented to a breathalyzer, blowing a .18 percent — more than twice the legal limit.

The mishap was the latest of five DUI arrests in Bloomfield Township over the past week. In a community relations move, officers reminded residents of the risks of drunk driving and the importance, of having a sober driver in a public statement. The suspect was held overnight and released with a citation the following morning, pending arraignment. Meanwhile, officials heaped praise on their officers for their "quick reaction and warning to motorists that may have prevented a severe crash," as echoed by police in a subsequent statement.
