More Foot Traffic for the Haight... Sort OfFlickr/Lorkin
The newest entrepreneurial venture in the Upper Haight is, or is soon to be, the pedicab.

A pedicab, in case you were wondering (we had to look it up), is one of those things that looks like a rickshaw. You buy a ride and get bicycled around. Two days ago, Andrew Watters, who runs Cabrio Night and Cabrio Taxi, the pedicab services that run along Fisherman's Wharf and the Embarcadero, filed an application with the city to extend pedicab services into the Lower Haight, Divisadero and Upper Haight / Golden Gate Park. Tentatively, the plan is only to introduce pedicabs to the neighborhood and Golden Gate Park on a special event basis in 2012, for local traffic jams like Hardly Strictly, Outside Lands and Bay to Breakers. In 2013, he hopes we'll see full pedicab service to the neighborhood. Watters said that there's not much to report yet, since the permitting is still underway. For now, the plan has garnered support from a number of neighborhood organizations, including the Haight Ashbury Improvement Association. As always, we'll keep you posted as we hear more.
