Good morning, Lower Haight! Still emerging from a post-Election Day fog? Well wake up, because we have some news.
London Breed, executive director of the African American Art and Culture Complex, has won the race for District 5 Supervisor after yesterday's vote.
After the initial round of voting,
the votes were:
LONDON BREED | 7201 |
CHRISTINA OLAGUE | 5071 |
JOHN RIZZO | 4142 |
JULIAN DAVIS | 3918 |
THEA SELBY | 3500 |
DANIEL EVERETT | 958 |
ANDREW ''ELLARD'' RESIGNATO | 567 |
HOPE JOHNSON | 366 |
As no candidate received 50% off the vote, it then went to ranked-choice elimination, in which the lowest-ranked candidates are dropped one at a time, with their supporters' votes going to their 2nd- and 3rd-choice candidates until someone breaks the 50% threshhold.
By the
final round, Breed prevailed with 11019 votes. In second place was Olague with 8591 votes. Results are unofficial until they're certified by the Department of Elections, but as it stands now, Breed is the victor.
Congrats to London Breed (herself a Lower Haighter, it should be noted!), and to all the candidates for running a spirited, hard-fought, occasionally ugly but generally civil race. We trust that you, like us and our mailboxes and doorknobs, are glad it's over.
