UPDATE: Andrea Aiello over at the Castro / Upper Market CBD received a statement from Supervisor Wiener's office that owner Larry Metzger is committed to keeping the restaurant and is going to reopen in 3 weeks. We've emailed Larry to find out why the restaurant closed its doors in the first place, if he'll be hiring the staff back, if he'll be changing the format/chef/menu, and when he'll be opening again. ----- After opening just over a year ago, Castro's Dancing Pig BBQ eatery closed its doors on Monday. Biscuit tipster Joe shot us an email letting us know (thanks Joe!) and we confirmed it with a few employees we know who used to work there. Many believe the restaurants failure was due to the high cost and low quality of the food served. The average entree price was around $24 dollars and appetizers were around $8 a piece. Many reviewers on Yelp said the dishes were dry, chewy, and over-cooked giving the Pig and average rating of 2.5 stars out of 5. On a bright note, the wait staff always seemed to receive high acclaim, so kudos to them. Some of the best deals at the Pig (and very difficult to mangle) were the happy hour specials at the restaurant's bar, which makes sense as the now former owner, Larry Metzger, is owner over at The Mix Bar. It's always sad to see local businesses close, but the writing had clearly been on the wall for the restaurant with no sign of it getting any better. Hopefully we can fill the void quickly, but until then we will have to add it to the list of vacant store fronts in the Castro.
