Black Sands, A Microbrewery And Cafe, Planned For Haight Street
Big news, thirsty friends. A new cafe and microbrewery has just inked a lease at 701 Haight, at the corner of Pierce.

The concept, dubbed Black Sands, is the latest project by Robert Patterson, co-owner of local shops Revolver and Voyager as well as Mission restaurant Ken Ken Ramen. Patterson tells us he's working with some "experienced brewer friends" from New York City to build out a micro-brewery at the address, complete with an integrated beer supply store. Black Sands will feature an array of ales, meads, IPAs, and other beers made on site. There will be a kitchen as well, serving up Japanese-inspired tapas dishes, and a cafe counter offering coffee from Potrero Hill-based Front Coffee. 701 Haight has long-topped our list of the neighborhood's sexiest vacant storefronts. Patterson and crew have detailed plans to transform the former laundromat into a space with serious style: think concrete counters and dark woods throughout. They also hope to add outdoor seating some time down the road.
The team just signed the lease about a week ago, and Patterson posted a photo inside the gutted space this weekend: So, clearly there's plenty of work to do. Expect Black Sands to open in roughly six months, assuming all goes well. We'll keep you updated.
