Remembering George "Pops" LloydPhoto credit: Scott Polizzi
We have some sad news to share about one of our Hayes Valley neighbors.

A few readers reached out to us yesterday to let us know about the passing of George "Pops/Poppy" Lloyd. Seen in the photo above, Pops was a longtime resident of Hayes Valley and very active and visible to many local businesses, merchants and residents. One of our readers shared with us:
He was often seen by residents, in the morning hours, power washing the sidewalks or sweeping the sidewalks ahead of street cleanings in the Hayes Valley business district. Always, ready to greet and ask how you are doing, share a laugh or inspire you with his words of wisdom. Pops truly enjoyed being a resident of Hayes Valley and took pride in making the neighborhood a better one.
A memorial service is being held today (March 1) at 12pm at the Arlington Hotel (480 Ellis). We've heard a few rumors about ways to donate to a fund, and soon as we hear more details, we'll publish them here. Rest in peace, Pops. You will be missed.
