We reported a few months back that Urban Picnic (4039 18th Street), a Vietnamese restaurant that has a location in the Financial District, was setting up their second location in the old Zadin Restaurant space (also Vietnamese), near 18th and Hartford. The restaurant soft-opened this past week and will have their official grand opening next Tuesday, July 1st. The restaurant format is fast/casual where you can grab something to go or take a seat at a free table after ordering at the counter. Urban Picnic will be open for lunch and dinner with new menu items that include a "Superfood Salad" (a blend of kale, spring mix, cabbage, carrots, raisins, grapes, coconut, and sunflower seeds) w/ ginger lemongrass Chia vinaigrette, a Sriracha lime chicken sandwich, and a Sriracha lime tofu sandwich. Check out the full menu here. Beer and wine are also being offered, including gluten free and organic beer. While week day breakfast may be in the pipeline, weekend brunch will be served and will include a new 4-grain porridge (brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal and chia), as well as new breakfast Banh Mi egg sandwiches. "We are excited to bring healthy eating to a neighborhood that values health and wellness in their daily lifestyles. By opening in the Castro, we can finally cater to the community 7 days a week, including holiday weekends and late evenings," says owner Trang Nguyen.
