Just after 5pm today, a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with another vehicle.

According to police, the impact sent the motorcyclist into a pedestrian, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The motorcycle rider was killed as a result of the collision.

"The area is blocked pending the completion of the investigation," said SFPD Officer Albie Esparza.

The incident comes less than a week after high-visibility pedestrian crosswalks were installed at Van Ness and McAllister as part of the ongoing McAllister Streetscape Improvement project.

In October of 2014, a 67-year-old woman was struck and killed in the crosswalk at McAllister and Polk on the same day that the streetscape project, which seeks to calm traffic and increase pedestrian safety, broke ground.

Update, 1/12: The victim of Saturday's collision fatality has been identified as Dakota Caruk, a 30-year-old San Francisco resident.
