Lucky 13 Working To Reopen Outdoor Patio After ABC ShutdownPhoto: Rose Garrett/Hoodline

Multiple tipsters have contacted Hoodline to report that Market Street dive bar Lucky 13 has had its patio abruptly shut down.

Tipster Nancy P. wrote in with the rumor that noise complaints may have been behind the issue. "I heard Lucky was forced to close its patio because of noise complaints ... Another case of 'Oooh, I wanna live where there's night life ... as long as no one makes any noise!'?"

"Apparently the ABC just killed the patio at Lucky 13," wrote Ryan. "Want to dig into what's going on there given the other plans to potentially tear the bar down? Second time they've lost their patio ..."

Jasmine B. also wrote in with the tip: "So the story as I hear it is ABC shut the patio down right before five this past Friday. Leaving the bar useless for the weekend."

Martin Kraenkel, Lucky 13 bar manager, confirmed that the bar was forced to temporarily shut down its patio on Friday. According to Kraenkel, two ABC (Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control) agents came in and prompted the bar to shut down the patio due to license issues associated with serving alcohol outside. The license which allows establishments to serve liquor outside on the patio is different from the license to serve inside the bar, though it's unclear how long Lucky 13 has operated its patio without the correct permits in place.

“Lucky 13 is trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, especially with the weather being so nice like this right now and people wanting to sit outside,” Kraenkle said.

With all the rumors going around about the possible closure of the bar, Kraenkle assured Hoodline that this is merely "a licensing issue that pertains only to the patio.” Kraenkle added, “We are working on it and we want to thank everyone for their continued support.”

We'll let you know when we find out more, and when Lucky 13's patio might be back in action.
