Back in June, we broke the news that plans were being explored to raze the Touchless Car Wash at Divisadero and Oak streets and replace it with a six-story residential and retail development.

Now we have a glimpse of what the new building might look like.

As designed by the firm of Solomon Cordwell Buenz, the building would rise 65 feet, with an additional 16 feet of space for mechanical equipment on the roof, for a maximum height of 81 feet. It will feature 152 residential units, from 400-square-foot studios to 772-square-foot 2-bedrooms. The majority of units will be 562-square-foot 1-bedrooms.

Here's the view from the Divisadero side, where four retail storefront entrances will line the street level:

And here's the Oak Street side. The leasing office would be located at the Divisadero corner, while walk-up residences and an entrance to the ground-level 60-car stacked garage would line the street further eastward:

The building will have a ground floor courtyard, a second-floor terrace, and a roof deck, adding up to more than twice the open space required of a project of this size. There would also be parking spaces for 131 bicycles.

Despite all these details, the project is still very much in the early stages. An application for a Preliminary Project Assessment (PPA) was filed on June 10th, and the Planning Department has 90 days to respond. The PPA will then be valid for 18 months, during which time the developers could decide to tweak or even abandon their plans. So, the finished product may end up looking quite different from the designs above, and may not take shape for many months to come.

As always, we'll keep you updated.
