After 16 years serving vegetarian fare to the neighborhood, Herbivore appears to have shut its doors for good at 531 Divisadero.

A sign posted on the door states that "Herbivore on Divisadero is now closed. Thank you for the years of support. Our 983 Valencia St. location is open." A third location in Berkeley (2451 Shattuck Ave.) remains open as well.

Herbivore was one of the longest-standing restaurants on the Divisadero corridor, having first opened its doors to the neighborhood in 1999. It was known for its ramen, breakfast tofu scrambles and back patio.

In recent years, however, the restaurant encountered some difficulties, particularly with regard to health inspections. In May, they were forced to close after a particularly bad rodent problem, and recent Yelp reviews lamented both the service and recent menu changes.

We reached out for more information from Herbivore, but have yet to hear back. The space has yet to hit the market, but we'll keep you updated on its future.

Thanks to tipsters Leah H. and Zach for the heads up.
