Three Suspects Arrested In Golden Gate Park Murder [Updated]Photo: alancleaver/Flickr

There's been an update in the case of 23-year-old Canadian tourist Audrey Carey, who was found dead in Golden Gate Park on Saturday morning, about half a mile from the stages for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. Three suspects, 24-year-old Sean Michael Angold, 18-year-old Lila Scott Alligood and 23-year-old Morrison Haze Lampley, have been arrested, and the SFPD says they will be charged with Carey's murder.

The break in the case came from a collaboration between the SFPD and Marin police. The latter group was investigating the murder of 67-year-old tantra therapist Steve Carter, who was murdered two days after Carey. According to the Chronicle, Carter, who resided in Costa Rica but had returned to the Bay Area so his wife could be treated for breast cancer, was shot to death while walking his dog on a fire trail just north of Fairfax.

The suspects stole Carter's keys and used his 2003 Volkswagen Jetta to escape; Marin County sheriff's investigators were able to track the car via GPS to Portland, OR, where the three suspects were arrested outside of a soup kitchen, apparently while attempting to sell the vehicle. Items belonging to Carey, who was visiting SF as the first leg of a solo backpacking trip when she was killed, were found in their possession, as was the gun used to kill Carter. In addition to the two murders, they will be charged with robbery.

The SFPD says that Carey's murder remains an active investigation. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact them at (415) 575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.

Update, 1:13pm: The Examiner reports that the gun used to kill both Carey and Carter was stolen from a car in a residential area near Fisherman's Wharf on September 30th. The gun was inside of a lockbox; police are looking for surveillance video of the area that might show it being stolen. Meanwhile, the Chronicle reports that three suspects in the killings have waived extradition in Oregon, and will be jailed in San Francisco or San Rafael.
