Haight Pizza Changes Name Back To VolarePhoto: Nuala Sawyer/Hoodline

It's been a year and half since Lower Haight pizza shop Volare (456 Haight St.) changed its name to Haight Pizza, after undergoing an ownership change and slight renovation. But regulars may now experience a sense of deja vu, as Volare appears to have risen from the ashes.

The answer: a couple of months ago. We talked to manager Diya Magableh, who told us that the name change—from Volare to Haight—was a mistake. "People really knew the name Volare," he told us.

Last year, Magableh told us that part of the reason for the name change from Volare to Haight Pizza was to counteract the mediocre Yelp reputation that the pizza joint had earned. But with Haight Pizza earning equally middling Yelp reviews, it appears the gambit didn't work. The question now: will the reborn Volare be assigned to its original Yelp page, or will it get a fresh lease on Internet reviews? So far, the latter appears to be the case

Aside from the shiny new sign and the new (old) name, Magableh has launched a new website for Volare, offering online ordering for both delivery and pick-up. Volare now also offers a variety of sandwiches, including a gyro, eggplant parmigiana, and a self-described "no-hangover" Philly cheese steak, (You can check out the new menu on Facebook.)

"We just wanted to give everything an upgrade," Magableh said.

For now, Volare is open from 5-10pm. But Magableh is currently hiring, and once he secures new employees, the pizzeria will open at 11am to reach the lunch crowd.
