Artís Coffee Arrives In The Castro, With Live-Roasted BeansPhotos: Brian Ray/Hoodline

We've been keeping an eye on Artís Coffee, the coffee spot that specializes in on-the-spot roasting, as it's transformed its new 506 Castro St. location. Now, it's finally arrived, having opened its doors to visitors over the weekend.

According to a staff member, Artís had been waiting on final approval from the health inspector. "We got it over the weekend, and are now roughly open from 7am-7pm daily," he said.

"It's a nice oasis in the Castro," the staffer explained. "There's free wifi, live roasting, snacks, and more. The windows are great for people looking to relax and enjoy the view."

He also advocated Artís' unique roasting process. "The small batches let us customize the coffee to the guests and maintain the quality of freshness. We roast it right in front of you, but if you are in a hurry, we have coffee that has been roasted the day before." In addition to coffee, visitors can enjoy pastries, tea, chai, bottled drinks, and more.

While Artís is officially in business as of now, owner Alex Lowe is excited for the store's official grand opening ceremony, which will go down on December 19th. "We'll have a DJ and Sister Kitty of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who will be there to do a ceremonial blessing on the space," he said. "All of the coffee sales during that day will go to Magnet and Lyric."
