Flipper’s Gets Flipped: Brass Tacks Owners Taking OverPhoto: Kevin Y./Yelp

The ownership situation has flipped at Flipper's Gourmet Hamburgers, the 18-year-old hamburger joint near Patricia's Green. Matthew Conway and Anthony Healy-London, owners of next-door neighbor Brass Tacks (as well as the Castro's Churchill), have purchased the restaurant.

"The owner of Flipper's approached us a while back about purchasing his business, and we recently came to an agreement," Healy-London told us. While he and Conway haven't solidified their plans for the space, a beer and wine license was filed under their names on Wednesday, and they tell us they are exploring a variety of ideas for Flipper's future.

Flipper's opened its doors onto Hayes Street in 1997, and aside from its wide array of burgers, serves everything from falafel wraps to chicken fingers. Owners Lucy and Salameh Naser also own a location in Oakland.

Serving food at Flipper's will be a new challenge for Conway and Healy-London, whose other projects don't have kitchens. Brass Tacks was renovated into a sleek, modern space from its previous incarnation as Marlena's, and it's likely Flipper's will also get a makeover. We'll keep you posted on what's in store.
