A 21-year-old man was killed in the Upper Haight early Saturday morning, after being stabbed near the corner of Haight and Stanyan. Hayward resident Jose Garcia Sanchez was one of three men in their early twenties who got into a "verbal altercation" with a fourth man at around 2am on Saturday; according to police, the altercation "escalated into a physical fight," and two of the three men were stabbed.

Sanchez and the other stabbing victim were transported to SF General Hospital, where Sanchez succumbed to his injuries. The other victim was treated and released.

The suspect in the stabbings has been identified as a man in his early 20s. No arrest has been made in the case.

Homicide investigators are actively pursuing leads; anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to call Park Station's anonymous tip line at 415-731-2865 or send a text message to 847411, beginning with "SFPD."

Saturday's incident is the second homicide of the year in Park District. In October, Canadian tourist Audrey Carey was shot in Golden Gate Park, allegedly by three suspects who are currently awaiting trial.
