New Year’s Morning Altercation In Geary Shop Leaves 1 DeadPhoto: Google Maps

An altercation in the early hours of New Year's Day left one dead in a Geary Street store, police say.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, entered a store on the 900 block of Geary St. around 5am Jan. 1st and got into a confrontation with an employee. A physical altercation ensued, and the victim fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

The victim was dead when officers arrived on the scene.

The incident is currently being investigated as a "suspicious death," not a homicide; SFPD has yet to determine whether the suspect, a 21-year-old man, will be arrested.
