Woman Kidnapped, Assaulted In SoMa After Entering Mistaken Rideshare Car

A case of mistaken rideshare identity turned ugly in the early hours of Sunday morning, as a woman entered a vehicle thinking it was her rideshare car, only to be kidnapped and assaulted.

According to an SFPD report, the incident occurred around 1:10am on Natoma between Fifth and Sixth streets, where a 22-year-old woman leaving a nightclub got into a vehicle she thought was the car she had ordered. The suspect, a 60-year-old man, drove her two blocks before stopping the car, turning around, and punching her in the face. He tried to get into the backseat with her, but she was able to fight him off by kicking him.

The victim exited the car and phoned for help, but by the time the police arrived, the suspect had fled. The victim sustained injuries, none of them life-threatening, and declined to be transported to the hospital.
