Pizzetta 211, the Richmond's beloved, Zagat- and Michelin-rated pizza nook, has set its sights on the neighboring storefront for a restaurant expansion.

The expansion isn't slated to become a bigger version of the current pizza bar, located at 211 23rd Ave. Instead, it will give the minds behind Pizzetta 211 a change to build a more broadly focused, seasonal restaurant.

In a community letter posted earlier in the month in the window of the space at 6101 California St., formerly Golden Star Laundry, the owners stated that they're aiming "to create a cozy corner that provides weekend brunch, weekday morning coffee with pastries, fresh seafood, housemade pastas, family-style shared plates, and (of course) many seasonal dishes."

They're also pursuing a beer and wine license for the spot, the letter says.

News about Pizzetta's decision to expand first broke earlier this summer, and according to the letter to neighbors, it's shooting to be up and running by this time next year.

Fond Pizzetta patrons will be happy to hear that no changes are in store for the original location. "We all deeply love Pizzetta just as it is and see no need to reinvent it," the letter states.

We've gotten in touch with Pizzetta for more details and updates on the expansion, but have received no response so far. We'll keep you posted with further news about the new restaurant as we learn more.
