San Francisco boasts its fair share of artisanal ice cream shops, but Portland's Salt & Straw is betting San Franciscans have an appetite for more.

As reported by the Chronicle, two new ice creameries are headed to the city: one will open up in the former Evolution Fresh location at 2201 Fillmore St. in the spring of 2017, and the other is headed to Hayes & Laguna thereafter.

Though the Hayes Valley address isn't specified, we're guessing Salt & Straw is an anchor tenant for the new development on the northeast corner of the Hayes & Laguna intersection. Formerly home to Hayes & Kebab, the five-story mixed-use building is slated to finish construction in early 2017.

Salt & Straw has been a fan favorite in Portland since opening five years ago, and now boasts three scoop shops in its hometown, plus four in Los Angeles. Known for creative and seasonally rotating flavors like Black Olive Brittle & Goat Cheese and Tomato Water and Ojai Olive Oil Sherbet, the company clearly aims to give local brands like Smitten and Humphry Slocombe a run for their money.
