Milkbean Brings Coffee, Fresh-Baked Pastries To Lower Nob HillPhotos: Carrie Sisto/Hoodline

Milkbean, a new coffee, breakfast and lunch joint, opened yesterday at 881 Post St. (at Hyde), in the space vacated by What A Grind in August.

Owners Crystina Lee and Sophie Huynh offer Peerless coffee, breakfast sandwiches (until 11am), and homemade pastries like cakes, scones, and cookies, baked on-site by Huynh. The shop also offers sandwiches with fresh ingredients for lunch, starting at 10:30am daily, Lee said.

Lee and Huynh fully remodeled the space to bring it up to code, with new seating and an ADA-accessible bathroom. They've also applied for a permit for sidewalk seating.

The pair chose to open in Lower Nob Hill because it is “up and coming with a lot going on, and close enough to downtown,” Lee said. “The neighborhood is remodeling, with new shops coming in, and we want to be a part of that."

Lee said she grew up in coffee shops, and always wanted to own one of her own. She's lived in San Francisco since she was young, and Huynh was born and raised here. Both are excited to be realizing their coffeehouse dreams in their hometown.

Milkbean will be open seven days a week, starting at 7am. Stop by for a cup of joe, a pastry, and free wifi.
