A 78-year-old man in is critical condition this morning after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue and Hyde Street in the Tenderloin.

At approximately 4:20pm on the afternoon of January 3, the man collapsed in the crosswalk, possibly due to a medical emergency, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

When the traffic light turned green, a 42-year-old man proceeded to drive southbound on Hyde Street, not realizing the man was in the road. After striking the victim, the driver remained on the scene.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and head, and was transported immediately to the hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition, according to the SFPD. The driver was not arrested.
